CHENNAI: PMK youth wing president and former Union health minister Anbumani Ramadoss on Thursday reiterated his party's stand that it will align neither with the ruling AIADMK nor the DMK in the forthcoming Lok Sabha election or any future elections. He categorically denied speculations that the party was warming up to the DMK after the April 25 Marakkanam caste clash.
"We have clearly said that we will not align with the Dravidian parties in the future. We will form a separate alliance under our leadership. Our alliance will form the government after the 2016 Tamil Nadu assembly elections," Anbumani Ramadoss told reporters in Chennai.
He also updated the health condition of his father and PMK founder S Ramadoss, who recently underwent a heart surgery. "He is fine. He has been shifted from Critical Care Unit today. He should be in the hospital for at least five more days," Anbumani said.
Condemning the state government for detaining party cadres under the National Security Act and Goondas Act in the wake of violence that broke out following the arrest of senior party leaders, Anbumani said, "At least 95 senior functionaries were held under these acts till today. They are innocent." Anbumani added, "We are going to approach the human rights commission, backward classes commission and other forums. I am also planing to meet the President and the Prime Minister in this regard."
Ramadoss underwent a heart surgery on May 20 at a private hospital in Chennai. He was admitted to the Apollo hospital on May 11, the day he was released from Trichy prison after 12 days' detention for making inflammatory speech during a party event last year. Ramadoss (75) was arrested on April 30 while trying to stage a protest at Villupuram, defying a ban seeking arrest of those behind the April 25 Marakkanam violence.
